Departure in just 7 weeks!!

Wow!!! I leave in EXACTLY 7 weeks...I have no idea what to think about that!!! I have a lot to do in preparation for my trip. Today, I went to student health to make a "travel appointment" which basically means I get to find out what kinds of immunizations I'm going to have to get. We're only planning on being in the country of South Africa, so that should make things easier...

Yesterday, all the students that are traveling abroad (there are four going to India, two to Amsterdam, two to New Zealand, and two of us to South Africa), met with two of our instructors for next semester. We discovered how much material we'll be missing for our Professionalism class and for our Leadership/Management class while we are gone.

I hope everyone's holiday season is going well :) I have two finals next week, but the only thing I can think about is this trip!!!

60 Days....

At this time, sixty days from now...I'll be flying over the Atlantic Ocean!! The only water I've ever flown over is the bay area when I was landing at New York City's LaGuardia Airport. I think I'll see a bit more water this time around.

The black line shows me flying to Atlanta, Georgia. We'll be there for about a four hour layover (don't want to miss that once daily flight so we gave ourselves plenty of time). The blue line shows the very long flight to Johannesburg. Any guesses for how long that flight will be?

EIGHTEEN HOURS

Looks like I'll have to bring lots of movies and books to keep myself entertained. Either that or some Nyquil to knock myself out for part of the plane ride!!

Preparation...

I'll be leaving for South Africa in two months and six days. It seems SO far away, but yet as each day passes I'm realizing that it's actually closer than I think.
For those of you that don't know, I'm going to Johannesburg (in the country of South Africa) for five weeks next semester to complete part of my senior practicum in nursing school. Our senior practicum at KU includes 320 clinical hours...ye
s, I have to put in 320 clinical hours in just 16 weeks. I'll be a busy bee yet again next semester :) But, I'm fortunate enough in that I get to do about 100 of those hours in a University hospital in Johannesburg. I don't know the details of what I'll be doing exactly, but I'll let you know when I do!
I'll keep adding more details about my trip as I come across them, and post pictures of places that I hope to visit while I'm there! Here are a couple of pictures of where I'll be in a little more than two months...
